Caroline Dunsire has been an elector of Canning for nearly 40 years, the last 20 of those living in the Bannister Ward. Caroline has a proven track record of active community participation and engagement at all stages of her professional and family life.

Record of Voluntary Community Involvement:

  • Representative on the City’s Canning Community Advisory Group (Inaugural Chair)
  • Community Representative on the Canning Reconciliation Action Group
  • Active member and office holder in the Riverton, Rossmoyne and Shelley Residents’ Residents Association (RRSRA) for 20 years
  • Regular attendance in the Public Gallery at the City of Canning
  • Involvement in various issues that relate to the protection of the Shelley foreshore (for example, proposals with environmental implications)
  • Delivered written submissions to the City and Government Departments

Local Work Life:

  • Teacher at Riverton and the old Canningvale Primary School
  • Teacher at Burrendah Early Childhood Unit
  • Deputy and Teacher at Gibbs Street Primary School in East Cannington
  • Small Business Owner in Welshpool

Caroline is now semi-retired to allow her to spend time on community involvement and enjoying family.

 Personal Life:

Born in country WA, Caroline’s early life was spent in Albany and then Inglewood. After training as a teacher, Caroline set off on for her first teaching appointment in rural WA. Upon returning to Perth she married a fellow teacher and as the proud owners of a block of land in Stringybark Ramble, Willetton, the couple built their first home.

Always living in Canning, they have built homes and raised a family in Willetton, Shelley, and Rossmoyne. Their young children attended Shelley Primary, playing sport at Willetton and Rossmoyne, and learning to sail with Shelley’s Juniors’ program. Caroline’s sons are now married adults, and Caroline and her husband enjoy being grandparents.

A series of dogs have been there at various stages, usually German Shepherds. These days, you might see Caroline walking along the river, while babysitting other dogs.
